A number of Smart-binders have recently been installed at customer sites to produce small-format booklets.
A small-format booklet may typically be 90 (width) x 120 mm (spine length). These booklets are often for example Product Manuals or Label Booklets to accompany small size consumer products.
The Smart-binder modifications include reducing the minimum trimmed booklet width from 119mm (normal min) to 80mm. Small brochures are produced ‘2-up’ (2 booklets side-by-side) using the Smart-binder optional center-knife. The booklets are bound either using ISG cold glue, or wire stitches (4 stitch heads needed for 2-up production).

A solution is also available to allow 3-up or 4-up production, using a separate additional (in-line) trimmer to cut the book into 3 or 4 parts.
